Welcome to Reception!

Welcome to our Reception class page — we are delighted to have you here! In Reception, we aim to create a happy, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued and excited to learn.

Our class is led by Mrs B Paget EYFS & KS1 Leader (Tuesday–Thursday) and Mrs K Baker (all day Monday and Friday PM). We are very fortunate to be supported by our wonderful team of teaching assistants: Mrs H Qadar, who covers PPA and management time as well as leading the class on Friday mornings, Mrs H Powell, who leads our Forest School provision, and Mrs L Batty.

In Reception, learning is play-based, hands-on and engaging. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, providing a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities that support all areas of development. Throughout the year, the children will enjoy:

• A strong focus on early reading, writing and phonics
• Practical maths through play and exploration
• Creative activities including art, music and role play
• Outdoor learning, including Forest School experiences
• Opportunities to develop independence, confidence and social skills

We place great importance on building positive relationships and supporting each child to become a confident, curious and resilient learner. Our environment encourages children to explore, ask questions and develop a lifelong love of learning.

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and believe that working together is key to helping your child thrive. This page will be regularly updated with important information, key dates and snapshots of our learning.

Weekly Reminders

• Tuesday afternoon – Forest School with Mrs H Powell in Squirrel Wood. Parents will be informed when it is their child’s turn. Please send your child in with an old long-sleeved top and leggings or joggers to wear.
• Wednesday afternoon – PE with Mr G Archer. Children can come to school wearing their PE kit.
• Tuesday morning (fortnightly) – Library Day with Mrs G Evans.
• Thursday – Bedtime Bear books are changed weekly with Mrs L Batty.

General Reminders

• Please ensure your child brings their book bag and a named water bottle to school each day.
• All children will be offered a healthy snack of seasonal fruit or vegetables. If your child prefers, they are welcome to bring a piece of fruit from home.
• Please provide your child with a pair of Wellington boots and trainers as they work outside in all weathers.
