Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome to our Year 6 class page. This is a pivotal and exciting year as we prepare our pupils for a confident and successful transition to secondary school. In Year 6, we set high expectations for all learners while nurturing a warm, supportive environment where every child feels valued, encouraged and inspired to achieve their very best.
We are passionate about developing independent, resilient and motivated learners who take ownership of their learning and approach challenges with confidence. Throughout the year, children are supported to build strong academic foundations alongside essential life skills such as organisation, responsibility and self-belief.
Our Team
Year 6 is led by Mrs C Mockridge (KS2 Leader) and supported by Mrs W Rogers (HLTA), who brings a wealth of experience to the classroom. We are also fortunate to work alongside Mrs H Qadar, Mrs C Newman, and Mr G Archer, who provide additional support through PPA cover and specialist teaching.
Our Learning Approach
In Year 6, learning is engaging, purposeful, and designed to prepare children for the next stage of their education. Our curriculum offers a broad and balanced range of opportunities, including:
- A strong focus on reading, writing, and mathematics to ensure pupils are secondary-ready
- Opportunities to apply learning across the wider curriculum
- Development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning skills
- Creative subjects such as art, music, and drama
- Physical education and outdoor learning experiences
- A focus on independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours
We encourage our pupils to ask questions, take pride in their work, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our Ethos
Building positive relationships is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to create a classroom environment where children feel safe, respected, and confident to express themselves. Our aim is for every child to leave Year 6 not only academically prepared, but also emotionally ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Working in Partnership
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and believe that working together is key to your child’s success. This page will be updated regularly with important information, key dates, and highlights of our learning journey.
