Uplands opened in 1962 and was built on the site of ‘Uplands House’. We are a one-form-entry primary school in Sandhurst, Berkshire, with a nursery onsite. Uplands Primary School and Nursery is the lead school of the Forest Learning Alliance which was a designated National Teaching School from March 2013 through to 31st August 2021 when all National Teaching Schools were superseded by the UK governments Teaching School and Curriculum Hub initiatives. We are dedicated to having and ensuring high standards for pupils and staff, as well as a culture of support and challenge.
Our key behaviours (We are Respectful, Kind, Resilient, Brave and Motivated), which were created by staff, pupils, parents/carers and governors, underpin all that we do, and all stakeholders live and work by these values. Our vision is simply ‘for all to be inspired to achieve’, as we felt this could apply to all the pupils, staff, governors and members of our Forest Learning Alliance. Our children are at the heart of all our decisions, and we are committed to providing the best possible education for them.
At Uplands, we enjoy planning exciting, creative lessons and ensure that children have a chance to succeed in all areas of life. This means that all subjects are given importance and are taught in full. In addition to the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, children at Uplands have the opportunity to explore music, arts, sports and more within the school day, and our wide range of extra-curricular activities supports the development of children’s interests out of school. Our curriculum follows our PRIME drivers (Purpose, Relationships, Impact, Metacognition and Experiences) which are bespoke to our school, and this gives children a broad and rich experience in their lessons and learning.
Our end of Key Stage assessment results (EYFS, KS1, Phonics Screen Check and KS2) have been consistently high for many years, which is made easier by exemplary behaviour, leading to excellent outcomes. Behaviour is taken very seriously, as well as safeguarding, to ensure children feel safe and happy. The staff and governors are highly skilled and committed to ensuring we provide the very best education we can.
We are a caring community, with staff and our families referring to the school as a ‘family’, and our children are proud and happy to be at Uplands. “Inspired to Achieve” is our motto, and staff are committed to supporting all children, regardless of ability or SEND, to achieve their best and reach age-related expectations and beyond.
