Forest Learning Alliance (FLA) is an educational training professional development and support provider, offering evidence-based professional development for teachers, school leaders, support staff. We work closely with an Alliance of schools covering all phases and settings, and other educational professionals across the South of England and specifically across Berkshire. We work together to provide high quality support for all areas of school and career stage teacher development opportunities.
The FLA lead school is Uplands Primary School and Nursery, which was a designated National Teaching School from March 2013 through to 31st August 2021 when all National Teaching Schools were superseded by the UK government’s Teaching School and Curriculum Hub initiatives.
As a Nationally Accredited provider for National Professional Qualifications (2017-2022), Forest Learning Alliance has successfully delivered NPQs across all phases and settings and continues to provide leadership training as a Delivery Partner for the newly-reformed suite of NPQs (2021-onwards) with National Lead Provider, Education Development Trust (EDT). Alongside the NPQs, we are offering EDT’s Early Career Development programme. Training is currently fully funded by the Department for Education to support the rollout of the Early Career Framework and DfE’s wider ‘Golden Thread’ initiative for teacher development.
Forest Learning Alliance are also the RSHE Curriculum Hub for NWLSC. For more information please visit the RSHE hub web pages.
As part of its career development opportunities, the FLA runs a highly successful School Direct programme with University of Reading. We have recruited 165+ trainees for the local area since 2013.
The FLA also supports other schools, and has a range of Specialist Leaders of Education, National Leaders of Education and other expert professions who support local schools.
We have successfully secured funded professional development opportunities for schools, including Maths School Improvement Programme, Sport England, STEM Internships and more recently Relationships Sex Health Education (RSHE) Hub train the trainer programme.
The Alliance has a strategic Governing Board committee and has strong strategic links with representatives from schools, universities, and local authority.
Uplands Primary School is the lead school for the Forest Learning Alliance School Direct Partnership. We are working with a group of 20 primary schools within our local area to recruit, train and support School Direct trainees from September 2016.
We offer either General Primary salaried or General Primary non-salaried placements.
As a teacher, you can inspire the next generation and help them realise their ambitions. That means you can go home each day knowing you’ve made a real difference, giving all young people the chance to fulfil their potential. At Uplands Primary School, we are offering you the chance to join us for a school experience day, when you will be able to observe classes at work and talk to outstanding teachers and staff about teaching.
The School Direct programme is a year long, school based training programme which results in the recommendation for QTS. Trainees will be based in a local school, supported by a high-quality mentor who will support them throughout the course, and will receive training through the University of Reading. In addition to this, our local alliance will offer tailored training to meet the needs of our trainees on local level.
Applications for the 2023/24 academic year will soon be accepted via the Apply for teacher training – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) site.
