Welcome to Reception! Our class is taught by Mrs Baker (Monday to Thursday) with Mrs Qadar leading the class as a HLTA on Friday (Teaching Assistant Monday – Wednesday). Mrs Powell works as a Teaching Assistant in the class Monday to Thursday and Mrs Batty works in the class as a Teaching Assistant on Thursday and Fridays. This year we are hosting a student teacher, Mrs Craig who you will begin to see more as the term goes on. We are a close-knit team who all enjoy working in the Early Years and strive to provide your child with a supportive, engaging, and nurturing environment in which to learn and progress. We are friendly and approachable and have an open-door policy. We are happy to help support you with any queries you may have about your child’s learning journey.

Throughout the year, we’ll help your child to progress through the EYFS, focussing initially on the Prime Areas of learning which are: Personal Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development before moving onto the Specific Areas of Maths, Literacy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Each week we base our literacy learning around a themed book, our first half term’s books are: Titch, You Choose, Little Red Hen, Nanna’s Button Tin, Whatever Next, Baby Goes to Market and Funny Bones. We are very lucky to be able to provide your children with a Forest School session throughout each term to enhance their learning. This is led by Mrs Powell on a Tuesday afternoon. Our PE day is Wednesday and Mr Archer will take the children’s PE lesson.

Weekly Reminders

• Tuesday afternoon – Forest School with Mrs H Powell in Squirrel Wood. Parents will be informed when it is their child’s turn. Please send your child in with an old long-sleeved top and leggings or joggers to wear.
• Wednesday afternoon – PE with Mr G Archer. Children can come to school wearing their PE kit.
• Tuesday morning (fortnightly) – Library Day with Mrs G Evans.
• Thursday – Bedtime Bear books are changed weekly with Mrs L Batty.

General Reminders

• Please ensure your child brings their book bag and a named water bottle to school each day.
• All children will be offered a healthy snack of seasonal fruit or vegetables. If your child prefers, they are welcome to bring a piece of fruit from home.
• Please provide your child with a pair of Wellington boots and trainers as they work outside in all weathers.
